Wine country!

Headed out this weekend to pick up the belated birthday girl!

Drove to Picton (the north east corner) to pick up Amy, then just about 20 minutes to Blenheim, in the heart of Marlborough wine country.

Our VRBO was this beautiful house with gorgeous grounds, with lemon and grapefruit trees, and passionfruit! There were even some ripe ones to try.

So pretty!

Amy booked us a wine tour on Saturday, so the girls and Josh had a day to themselves and got to swim at Amy's hotel...thanks Josh!

I think vineyards are so pretty. Pinor noir grapes!

Fantastic views.

And the workhorse of the region-Sauvignon blanc. We had a great guide/driver, and had some really fun and informative tastings at 5 different wineries. Turns out Sauvignon blanc grapevines grow like weeds, and the region has perfect weather for them.

Mountains and grapevines!

Meanwhile, the girls got giant ice creams....

Visited a fantastic park....

And watched lots of ducks!

Then games with Amy.

Chocolate tasting! Magda thought it was only fair that they get to do a tasting as well...and the tour did bring us to a chocolate shop, so they all had to give their tasting notes with the different pieces!

Night views of the War Memorial clock tower in Seymour Square.

Farmer's market!

Goodies at the farmer's market.

The girls brought us to the duck park-we brought frozen peas to feed them. And the girls. Frozen peas are a good snack for all!

Reading in a tree!

Such cool bark.

Headed back to Westport after lunch with Amy-she will wander south and then to Westport to hang out with us next weekend. Woohoo! Such fun to have a visitor!

Hooray for Amy!! So glad you could get a girls date and the kids had a grand adventure with Josh too! Where you stayed had amazing gardens!! So fun to pick fruit right off the tree :). Love the chocolate tasting idea (Magda that is more my speed for a tasting as well!!). And Frank that cupcake is HUGE! You will have to tell us where to get one when we come. Lucy - fantastic tree reading you!! And Violet - you are a perfect third kind of flower between the hydrangeas and the iris! Miss you all and SO appreciate the effort you make to keep us all with you on your amazing year o fun!
