Southland part 3-Dunedin

This is Van/Violet.

There was a lake! Can you see it??

(After we got into the Ivercargill Airport, we headed to Dunedin-such a gorgeous town! lots of beautiful old houses and pretty architecture.)

We go'ed to the Albatross museum, and I had hor chocolate and I got really really dirty. When I was finished I was covered with chocolate.

(There wasnt THAT much chocolate.

The Royal Albatross center! It is so cool. it is about a 40 minute drive from Dunedin to Pukekura / Taiaroa Head. It is the location of a Wildlife Reserve, and has approximately 250 albatross, 4,000 red-billed gulls and colonies of Spotted Shag, the rare Otago Shag, Royal Spoonbills and hundreds of New Zealand Fur Seals.)

We had a tour of the Albatross nests.

(We got to check it all out from little hideouts)

I was sitting with a fake baby Albatross. We couldn't see it's eyes.

(This was actual the size of the baby Albatross that we saw! The biggest baby that they have right now is 11kg. The babies are born around late January, and will take their first flight generally around September, and will fly all the way to somewhere close to South America, and don't touch land again until they come back for breeding 3-5 years later!)

We were at the lookout and and it was a baby.

(Such cute giant fluffballs)

I was measuring how much I was and I was a blue one!

(Van=wingspan of the otago shag)

We were at the museum and this was when we were leaving and we took pictures of mama and Dada. Then there was mama kissing and then there was just smiling with Dad. And that's it.

This is the lighthouse.

We were at the birdie place eating bagels and daddy was trying to get the yellow things' spreader out of his hair, or her hair, and do you know what happened when dad tried to do that? Another bird of that kid was trying to get out with a rock!

(Aviary in the Botanical gardens! There was another bird that was using a rock to scrape at the bottom of the cage. Smarty.)

Yellow bird.

I wanted to climb this tree.

(It's just a bit too tall)

We got ice cream. What kind did I get? Oh, yeah, golden rush? Yeah, golden rush. And Frankie got an oreo kind, and someone else got that too.

(Rob Roy is an ice cream institution in Dunedin. The girls loved it!)

We were eating ice cream at the bench.

Daddy was going to pick us up.

(Parking in cities is hard. Josh, that lovely human, dropped us off so we could go get ice cream. And there was lots of good people watching!)

I was on the SHEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP

Love, Violet
